More Easter thoughts...

So, Easter bank holiday is over. We look forward to May, and then we can count the weeks to midsummers day! How true is the saying, 'time flies'. Indeed, should a horse by the name of 'Time Flies' enter the Ascot races, maybe its name would actually shorten the odds!

Time is precious. We can waste time by looking back -- or by looking ahead. Each of us is a product of yesterday; every experience, our genetic inheritance, our social setting, everything that has happened has made us who we are. Each of us looks into the future with various levels of anticipation. Maybe the next year will be the year when our dreams come true. Maybe, not!

None of us can anticipate tomorrow's events with certainty. The only dependable time we have -- is today. As I write this column, the sun shines in a blue sky. A Magnolia tree in the garden has already begun to shed its blossoms, now the petals fill the lawn, like opulent confetti; tomorrow its lovely spring beauty will have all blown away. But today I can scoop handfuls of the petals, feel their softness, identify the luxury of another spring here in Pontypool.

Today, everything in the garden is lovely! This day is mine. Yesterday is past. Tomorrow has yet to come. The Bible puts it this way. 'This is the day that the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it .' (Psalm 118:24) Consider the description of the empty grave cave on the first Easter morning when Jesus rose from the dead. I quote from John chapter 20,

'Peter went into the tomb. He saw the strips of linen lying there as well as the cloth that had been wrapped round Jesus' head. The cloth was still lying in its place, separate from the linen.'

The future of the world hung on the fact that Jesus rose from the dead. The past was overthrown, because, of course, you can't kill God. But on that resurrection morning, Jesus took time to tidy up! He folded the grave clothes, and he left every thing in order.

Take time to enjoy today. Celebrate the gift of life. Live tidily in each today, and allow God's grace and goodness to embellish all your todays.
