Every breakfast is a celebration meal! We understand that is true of a wedding breakfast -- a new beginning --but every breakfast signals the beginning of a new day, and that gift of another 24 hours of life deserves celebration.
Yesterday is past, tomorrow has yet to come -- but today is yours.
The most unusual breakfast I ever had was held in an African village, on the equator. Bread was newly baked, and we waited for the rest of the meal. We had a long wait. Our host explained, "we cannot give you food until the chickens have laid the eggs for you."
The most opulent breakfast I attended was a Banquet breakfast in USA. 500 guests were invited, to meet me (!), the English speaker. Succulent course followed succulent course. When I finally stood up to greet them -- I was amazed that anyone was still awake.
My most emotional breakfast followed my fathers death, in hospital. We were at his bedside as dawn broke and he took his last breath. We went to break the news to his mother. Tears rolled down her face --and then she said, "But this is a new day, and we will have breakfast together."
The three breakfasts I have described all have one thing in common -- there was waiting time! We waited for the chickens to lay the eggs. We waited until every item on the long breakfast menu had been served and enjoyed. We waited, through a long night, and then waited with family, as the sad news was unfolded.
Now, consider these words from the Bible.
'Because of the Lords great love--- we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning, great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, the Lord is my portion, therefore I will wait for Him. It is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.'
The promise given to Noah has never been broken. God promises, 'As long as the earth endures, day and night will never cease.' Notice the order here. Day, then night, then day. Even the darkest night of discontent, discomfort, distress, despair -- is sandwiched between day, and day. Consider again - His compassions never fail. They are new --- every morning!
A poet put it like this.
Morning has broken, like the first morning
Blackbird has spoken, like the first bird.
Praise for the singing, praise for the morning,
praise for them springing, fresh from the word.
Nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
